Licensing & Terms

Plain-language summary of the license embedded in every copy of the standard.

Each copy is individually licensed

When you purchase HART-STD-001, you are not downloading a generic file. A copy is generated specifically for you at the moment of purchase and is licensed exclusively to the named buyer or organization on that order. That copy:

  • Includes a license page identifying the licensee, organization, purchase ID, and date issued.
  • Carries a visible footer on every page stating who the copy is licensed to.
  • Contains an embedded, page-level identifier and metadata tying the file back to that specific purchase.

This means every legitimately issued copy of the standard is traceable to the purchase it came from — including copies that are cropped, screenshotted in part, or otherwise altered.

What you may and may not do

Your license grants you use of the standard within your own organization for the purpose of understanding and implementing its requirements. Redistribution, resale, sublicensing, or sharing of the document, in whole or in part, outside the purchasing individual or organization is strictly prohibited without prior written consent from Heart and Logic Foundation.

Because each copy is uniquely identified, a leaked or improperly shared copy can be traced back to the license it was issued under.

What counts as one license

A standard purchase covers one named licensee: either one individual, or one organization acting through the individual who completes the purchase. It does not cover independent use by multiple business units, subsidiaries, or unrelated teams within a larger organization.

If you need the standard licensed for use across multiple teams, departments, or entities, contact us for a multi-seat license — see the FAQ for how that works.
